Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the top division and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the tally a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine stops to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to review the score on the screen and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender fulfils duties at each end of pitch

After a drab midweek performance in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a mere attempts on target, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball back across the face of goal for an free the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's absence - notched his next goal in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defence, combining effectively with Kevin Danso as the pair dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees missing striker's instinct

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have faded slightly and fans flocked to the exits after Sarr's final goal for Spurs.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation are.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's pair of recognised centre-forwards - had netted just a single goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor record on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was summed up when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler shot that would have challenged the keeper.

Barry, as well, failed to influence the game after replacing Beto in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly delivered dangerous balls into the Spurs box.
