On-loan Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund netted a double as Napoli defeated Sporting Lisbon to secure their maiden UEFA Champions League win of the season.
Each of the striker's strikes came with assists from former Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, while Colombian forward Luis Suarez converted a penalty for the Portuguese outfit Sporting.
The decisive goal came in the 79th minute, with this positive result following the team's 2-0 loss at Manchester City in their opening match.
The Dane's Path to Napoli
Hojlund completed a season-long loan move to the reigning Serie A champions on transfer deadline day at the start of the month having not featured in Manchester United's first four matches of 2025-26.
The 22-year-old scored 26 goals in 95 appearances in his spell at Old Trafford following his £72m move from the Italian club in August 2023.
He scored just four times in the English top flight in last season but has already netted three goals in five outings for Napoli, who have an option to purchase the Danish striker for £38m at the conclusion of the campaign if certain conditions are met, including qualifying for the Champions League.
Match Key Moments
Hojlund showed pace and strength for his first goal when he received De Bruyne's through ball before clinically finishing past Sporting goalkeeper Silva.
A foul by Politano on Maximiliano Araujo to concede a second-half penalty, which was scored by Suarez to make it 1-1, but Hojlund scored the decisive goal with a courageous headed effort after a delivery from De Bruyne from the left flank.
Sporting now have one win and one defeat of their first two group games following an opening with a convincing win over the team from Kazakhstan Kairat.
