The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unjustified” travel bans issued by the United States against five European individuals working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Coercion’

European leaders such as the French president charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, after the visa restrictions targeted individuals that were central to campaigns to enact legislation governing American tech companies.

“For too long, European activists have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce US companies to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state online. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
