Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important political figure stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
